you wake up with a start and know this isn’t just a dream
beginning with the way you breathe nothing’s what it seems
and everything that’s tried and true intention can make pure and new
and beautiful to see

you forget the reasons why you try to see behind the veil
illusions humor your mind’s eye delighting when you fail
and even when it’s dark you see traces of what it can be
it’s beautiful to see

but everything i try to do rarely holds it’s promise to be beautiful to me

when you can begin to slow the chatter in your mind
then you can begin to know what you’d hoped to find
